Searching for Scandinavian 2nd Officer candidates, the candidates needs to hold previous experience from offshore vessels.
The 2nd Officer is responsible for the safe navigation on his watch.
The 2nd Officer is in co-operation with Chief Officer, responsible for the supervision of deck crew on his watch, including the verification of work performed.
As officer on watch the 2nd Officer is to report direct to the Master when sea watches is set.
During stay in port, dry docking etc. the 2nd Officer is to report to the Chief Officer.
The 2nd Officer is the vessels Safety Officer. If practical possible the position shall alternate between the two 2nd officers.
Own and fellow crew members safety including use of proper PPE
Authority
Should the Chief Officer of any reason be unfit to continue his duties, the 2nd Officer is to take over his duties and responsibilities.
Daily Routines
The 2nd Officer is responsible for all navigational equipment, including update of charts, correction of charts, publications and flags.
The 2nd Officer is on his watch responsible to ensure that all activities in progress is carried out in manners laid in the company’s Safety Management System and to Charter’s guidelines.
In addition the following duties are to form part of the 2nd Officer responsibility :
Navigational Watch
To correct all charts in use and to keep the chart correction file up to date
To maintain the exercise log
To inspect and maintain all safety equipment on board
All officers has a special responsibility to support the implementation of company policies, the company safety / QHSE system and in general the the company standards regarding health, safety, quality and environment.
Emergency duties:
The 2nd Officer shall participate in any emergency duties according to the vessel Muster Plan, Shipboard Contingency Plan or Masters Instruction. He shall also assist the Master and Chief Officer in Safety Drills and Emergency Training of the crew if required.
Security duties:
The 2nd Officer shall perform security duties according to vessel Ship Security Plan, the Shipboard Contingency Plan and Masters Instructions.
